A Celebration of Light and Renewal : Solstice Inspired Jewellery

As the sun reaches its highest point in the sky today and bathes the Northern Hemisphere in a glorious display of light, we welcome the summer solstice. This enchanting moment marks the longest day of the year, filled with abundant sunlight and endless possibilities.

The term "solstice" derives from the Latin words "sol," meaning sun, and "sistere," to stand still, as it describes the apparent pause in the Sun's path before it reverses direction. Celebrated since ancient times, the solstice represents one of the earliest astronomical observations in human history.

I love to mark and celebrate both the summer and winter solstice, they seem like huge landmarks in the year to me. I thought I would share some simple ways you could too.

Celebrating light and life - being outside, whether it be a picnic, garden party, eating dinner in the garden, or a lovely walk, I feel drawn to connect with the lushness of nature blooming.

Transformation - The summer solstice is not only a celebration of light but also a time of transition. It marks the turning point when the days begin to shorten, reminding us of the cyclical nature of life and the constant flux of the seasons. This can inspire us to embrace new beginnings and embark on journeys of self-discovery. Intention setting is very powerful today, although I think this kind of work is valuable on any day of the year. Reflect on your aspirations and goals, perhaps create a vision board or write a letter to yourself, expressing your dreams and aspirations for the months ahead.

Rituals and traditions - Throughout history, cultures across the globe have celebrated the summer solstice through celebratory gatherings with fire, feast, dance, storytelling music and more. You can create a small personal ritual by lighting a special candle or a bonfire at sunset, meditating on the transformative power of light. I have practised yoga for many years and love to do an extended practice on the solstices but simple sun salutations are a perfect way to connect.

Adorn yourself - Of course you can celebrate the radiant energy of the summer solstice by adorning yourself with sun-inspired jewellery. Choose pieces that capture the essence of the sun's brilliance - my Electra, Shimmer and Grace collections with their radiating ombre gold-plated detail all evoke sunrises, and shimmering sun kissed waters.

Create something - The summer solstice is a time of creativity and renewal, the perfect time to indulge in your creative urges. This could be anything from painting to writing to gardening. It doesn’t matter whether you keep the end result or toss it into the fire, the process is the important thing. Express your creativity and let your inner light shine through.

No matter how you choose to celebrate the summer solstice, make sure to do something that brings you joy and connects you with the power of the sun.

Wishing you a happy solstice
